Sunday Setlist: 5/10/09
We continued our series this week taking us through the book of 1 Peter. Many Christians live today as if the world were our final destination. We pour our life resources and energy into things that will barely last 50 years, let alone eternity. We frequently cave in to the old sinful desires. We struggle to remain faithful in the midst of great suffering. We’ve lost sight of the glorious inheritance waiting for us.
God calls us to live as “strangers” in this world, spiritual sojourners that are just passing through. As children of the living God, our focus should be on eternity as we point people to the living Christ who paid it all for us. Our priorities and lifestyle should undergo a radical transformation.
In 1 Peter, Peter unpacks what this transformed life looks like and how it should interact with this world. In 1 Peter 2:11-17, Peter continues to paint the picture of what the transformed life does and does not look like. We need to be thankful for what Jesus did on the cross and realize that when we accept Christ our eternal life begins immediately so we should live like it.

We had some cool stuff going on this week. Being Mother’s Day, we had the opportunity to recognize and prayer for mother’s in a specific way. This year we had people submit photos for moms and their children. We then put those together and showed it during the offering. To be honest, I wasn’t that satisfied with how it came together, but people really enjoyed it.
We also had one of our elders bring the message today. John did a great job with the passage and pointing people again to the life we are to live as strangers in this world. He also led us in communion, and did a great job setting that up. He took some time to explain some of the symbolism and relation to Jewish culture, the wedding preparation and feast, and how that all ties in to and connects with what we do each time we celebrate communion. It really helped people connect with what we were doing in a fresh way. To hear what he said, head over to www.codycma.org, and download the sermon podcast for May 10.
For our songs at the beginning, we did the Declaration of Salvation from Fred McKinnon, and had music building underneath that and then went right into Sing to the King. After that we transitioned right into O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing. We wrapped that time of singing up with Your Name and a great prayer by my wife, Beck, who was helping me out.

Sing to the King and Nothing But the Blood are two of my favorites!
Our church really likes them too.
