[Video] Because of Your Love

While this isn’t necessarily a new song, it’s one that’s come to my attention lately. It’s a great expression of so many things, yet is a compact and simple song to catch on to.

We’re going to be introducing this song soon, and I hope it catches on.

Check out Paul Baloche and his band doing the song below. Enjoy.

What do you think?

grow-up-title--finalThis is the final week of the “Grow Up!” series where we have been focusing on the first section of 2 Peter 1 where Peter talks about the different qualities we are to add to our life as we grow in Christ.

The concept of growing up has a lot of connotations in today’s world. Becoming more independent, self-sufficient, and the like. But the picture that God paints of growing up is one of becoming more like Jesus and becoming more dependent on Him. The end product is way different that what we’ve been trained to think, but way better.

The last two qualities that we focused on this week were brotherly kindness and love toward our neighbor. These are both essential qualities of the Christian life that aren’t necessarily seen as important in today’s world. Yet, as we grow up in Christ, we are to share our heart by giving ourselves away just as Christ did for us. The question that was left with people was “Am I willing to give myself away for the sake of others, whatever that looks like, just as Christ gave Himself for us?” Continue Reading…

[Video] Grow Up Story of Mark

Mark Smith Growing Up Story from Chris Gambill on Vimeo.

During our series “Grow Up!” about what it means to grow up in Christ, we are featuring stories of different people in our church talking about what God is teaching/has taught them about growing up and what some significant growth events have been for them.

Mark is a newer person at our church who has recently discovered what it means to grow up in Christ.

Everyday Worship

I read this the other morning, and wanted to share it.

It is my experience that the totality of our Christian lives-our entire attitude as person–must be towards the worship of God!

If you do not know the presence of God in your office, your factory, your home, then God is not in the church you attend either!

I became a Christian when I was a young man working in a tire factory in Akron, Ohio. I remember my work there–but I remember my worship there too! I had plenty of worshipful tears in my eyes. No one ever asked me about them, but I would not have hesitated to explain them.

You can learn to use certain skills until they are automatic. I become so skillful that I could do my work and then I could worship God even while my hands were busy.

If the love of God is in us and the Spirit of God is breathing praise with us, all the musical instruments in heaven are suddenly playing in full support! Even our thoughts become a sanctuary in which God can dwell.

Dear Lord, I pray that Your Spirit will so fill me today that my heart and mind will overflow in praise to You.

These words were written by A.W. Tozer, a pastor and author in the mid-20th century. His was a voice that called people to pursue God and live for Him fully. His words still carry weight today. You can find more writings like this in Mornings with Tozer: Daily Devotional Readings.

grow-up-title--finalIt’s been a while since I’ve done one of these. There’s been lots going on. We’re currently in a series called “Grow Up!” and we are focusing on the first section of 2 Peter 1 where Peter talks about the different qualities we are to add to our life as we grow in Christ.

The concept of growing up has a lot of connotations in today’s world. Becoming more independent, self-sufficient, and the like. But the picture that God paints of growing up is one of becoming more like Jesus and becoming more dependent on Him. The end product is way different that what we’ve been trained to think, but way better.

This week was different from our normal Sunday morning picture. Instead of doing two services and Sunday School, we did what we call Time to Serve Sunday. This is something we started doing last year. Every spring and fall (twice a year), we change what we do in order to help our church serve the community together. For the fall piece, we totally restructure our Sunday morning schedule to allow people the opportunity to serve together as an expression of worship, and many of them for the first time. Every gathers at 8:45am, and we do a brief opening service together. Then we break into teams and go out to serve, and then come back to sing, share stories, and baptize people. It’s a long morning, but well worth it. Continue Reading…
