It’s been a while since I’ve done a post about our Sunday worship services. Not intentionally, it’s just that when things get busy, some things don’t get the attention they did before. Blogging happens to be one of those things. Which is probably why I’ve had a whole bunch of posts over the last few days – getting some stuff out that’s been waiting.
Anyway, with the new year, we started a new series called “Be People of the Word.” Each year, our senior pastor wants to focus people back on the importance of the Word and prayer in our spiritual journey.
This week we focused on what it means to be truly blessed and the role the Word of God plays in that. I tried video-taping the service this week, so click to check out the video and for more info.

The songs we did included “As It Is in Heaven“, “Show Us Who You Are”, “Be Thou My Vision” (HymnCharts Band arrangement), and “Ancient Words“. We included a few more Scripture selections in the time than we usually do from Matthew 5 and John 14. “Show Us Who You Are” is an older song (if you consider 10 years older) and is becoming one of my favorites because of how it expresses a heartfelt call to God. It’s by Todd Proctor and comes from the Vineyard folks.
We used a video from Igniter Media called “The Bible Contains…” to set the stage for the value and importance of the Word. I don’t think that’s Morgan Freeman doing the narration, but it sure sounds like him.
At the close of the service we spent some time hearing from a staff member who is moving into a different ministry. We also closed with a responsive reading built off of Psalm 1 (our Scripture focus for the day) and connecting it with Jesus. It’s great to be able to lead and hear the church as a whole declaring Scripture together. We’re going to do that quite a bit with this series.
