Worshiping Together: 11/6/11

Sin has far reaching consequences in this world. While God will remove the spiritual consequences of sin in our lives through Jesus Christ, the same is not always true of the natural consequences.

Our journey through the life of David continued this week as we looked at the sin that took root in David’s children because of his sin. 2 Samuel 13-18 paints a sad picture. Not only of sin and its consequences, but also of David’s failure to address the sin taking root in his family.

Fortunately, we can find victory in our own lives and in the patterns of sin present in our family lines through Jesus Christ. He gives hope, forgiveness, and grace as we turn to Him.

Here’s what we did together in worship:

Moment to recognize veterans.

We used a video from Centerline New Media called “Pray, Thank, Remember.” We then recognized those who’ve served in the service and prayed for them.

A few observations:

  • Another good morning together. It’s not always easy to talk about the reality of sin, but our pastor has been handling this topic with grace and truth. It’s great knowing that people are being challenged and encouraged. We are continuing to grow in working, ministering, and worshiping together too.
  • The offering/dismiss kids/scripture element was an experiment this week. I’m working through the tension of how and when to dismiss kids to their lesson so that they are able to participate in some of the songs, but so it doesn’t become a distracting element. This week, I sandwiched it in the midst of the worship songs, connecting the act of giving with worship. We won’t do it this way every week, but may become one of the tools we use.
  • I’ve learned that I’m a little out of practice with some of my verbal transitions. The offering piece was a little awkward. The other part is continually learning the norms of how things have been done in this church. I wasn’t as clear as I should have been about the ushers beginning to collect the offering.
  • I’ve been enjoying blending the old and new songs, and the congregation seems to be engaging well with the variety.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope that you also had a great morning worshiping together in your context.
