There is an amazing story in Genesis 12. It’s a story about Abram, God, faith, and obedience. And it is the story we looked at this week as part of the Vintage Faith: Yesterday, Today, Forever series.
Abram, who had no concept of God, suddenly encounters the reality of God. God offers an opportunity and covenant to Abram, but doesn’t reveal all the practical details. It simply requires Abram to take a step of faith in obedience. A step that will mean a different life, a different location, and stepping away from everything he has every known. In Abram’s story we see how faith involves obedience.
That’s the truth we looked at together as we remembered God’s greatness, celebrated Christ, and took opportunity to consider what God may be asking us to do in faith.
Here’s what we did together…

Observations:
- The focus of the first part of the service was to remember the greatness of God. It was the greatness of God that Abram encountered and responded to. Remembering the greatness of God and all that He has done for us through Christ is key to faith.
- The later part of the service built on the theme of faith and obedience. How is God moving? What is He calling us as individuals and as a body to do? What are the things blocking us from being obedient?
- There were some areas to celebrate this morning. We had 12 kids participating in children’s ministry and had 2 new families visiting, and a return family. Unfortunately, there were also some aspects that aren’t worth celebrating…
What was your time of worship together as a community like? I hope that you together had the opportunity to honor the Lord in worship as you celebrated the risen Christ and were challenged by the declaration of truth.
