We took a break from our regularly scheduled series (Stained Glass Living) to celebrate new beginnings today. Due to some extenuating circumstances (including our pastor doing a wedding two hours away that started at 1:30pm), we had a shortened service focused on baptism.
We took some time to sing and remember God’s greatness and all He has done. We took a look at the story of Philip and the Ethiopian Eunuch from Acts 8. We heard the stories of two people testifying to their new beginnings in Christ and saw them be baptized. We remembered that there are many people in our spheres of influence who also need to know of the new beginning that God offers through Christ and prayed for opportunities to be a part of that process.
Here’s what we did together…
Our Service Flow
Call to Worship
Focused on the many ways that we can glimpse the glory of God, especially because of our relationship with Christ. Scriptures included Colossians 1:15 and Hebrews 1:3.
God of Wonders (Byrd/Hindalong)
He Is Exalted (Paris)
Prayer & Scripture (2 Peter 1:17-18, 1 Peter 1:21-23, Ephesians 1:7)
Jesus Paid It All (O Praise the One) (Hall/Nifong/Grape)
Nothing But the Blood (Redman)
Video from Bluefish.tv – Water
Great video highlighting the symbolism and meaning of water through the Bible and its meaning in baptism.
We had each person share a brief story, and then be baptized.
For those who were baptized to continue growing in their relationship with Christ and for all of us to remember and celebrate who we are in Christ.
You are the Light (Fee)
Close & Commission: Galatians 3:26-29
- Wasn’t sure how the service was going to go when we got there this morning. Part of the building was without power. Affected things included the internet, platform lighting, and the projector. Fortunately, the power company was very responsive and got it restored before time to start.
- Seeing people baptized and hearing their stories of new beginnings is always a good way to spend time together. Thankful for those who took that step today in their spiritual journey.
- The songs and scriptures on the front side seemed to flow really well. For those that engaged, it was a good time of remembering and responding through worship. Hope more begin to hunger for God and desire to engage in the weeks to come.
- Continue to use the OnSong app on my iPad and am loving it. Haven’t invested in a foot pedal yet, but may soon. Also, things are going well with using multiple vocalists. Now if we could just be blessed with a spiritual and skilled guitarist and percussion person, that would be awesome.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope that your time of gathering as the Body of Christ was inspiring, worshipful, and transformative.
