“You Have Saved Us”

This is another great song from the latest album by Paul Baloche. It’s called “You Have Saved Us”. You can find out more about Paul and his ministry at his website. If you haven’t gotten a copy of “Glorious” yet, you can get the physical disc or digital download through Amazon. Watch Paul doing the song with his band, and then watch him as he talks about the song.

Enjoy!

Worshiping Together: 1/17/2010

We’re in the third week of the “Be People of the Word” series as we focused on the value and benefits of the what the Bible offers us as an owner’s manual for life. We tackled Psalm 119 (all of it), and approached it be first focusing on the blessing of obedience that comes from studying the Word and then presenting a number of “tips” based off of the main themes in Psalm 119.

We began with Welcome and Announcements, and then as part of the Call to Worship, I took a teachable moment focused on why we sing when we gather (because we are instructed to and because it helps us to remember and declare the truth of who God is and what He has done). I mentioned that the songs we sing are from Scripture, some of them exactly, and that the reason we often put verses on the screen during musical interludes was to help people connect the songs with their Scriptural basis. I then read a medley of Scriptures (Col 1:19, John 3:35, Phil 2:9-11, Eph 1:21, Col 1:16, Rom 14:9, Col 2:10, John 1:16). Read the rest of this entry »

“Glorious” by Paul Baloche

Lately, I’ve been listening a lot to Paul Baloche’s new recording “Glorious.” While it’s definitely classic Paul Baloche, it has some great songs and sounds on it.

One of the songs that has really grabbed me is the title track, “Glorious.” It’s an awesome song with solid words, and it doesn’t hurt that it has a catchy riff.

Check out the video below of Paul and his band playing the song, then watch the video below that of Paul talking about this song. I think that I am definitely going to work this one into the church’s song rotation.

Enjoy!

Another great song on the album is “You Have Saved Us.”

If you haven’t got this album yet, you can get the digital download here or order a copy here through Amazon.

catch spirit title regularWe’re into our Christmas series for 2009 called “Catch the Christmas Spirit.” This year, we are focusing on helping people remember and capture the true meaning and spirit of this time of year. As soon as Halloween is over, we are thrust into the season of red, green, and sales.

The rush to get the right stuff for the right people is all that many people know and experience at this time of year. But, when we settle for that, we settle for a cheap substitute of what this time of the year is really about.

In Isaiah 9:1-7, God promised an amazing gift for the people. If we can catch the true Christmas spirit, our holiday celebration will not be the same, and neither will we.

generous living 4We began a new mini-series this week called “Generous Living.” Each November we take some time to focus on stewardship and missions. Our desire is not to “encourage” people to simply give more money to the church or to missions work, but to help them consider and grow in the joy of generosity in how they spend their time, what they invest in, how they respond to people in need, and what they do with financial resources.

It’s not an easy topic always, or one that people want to be reminded of, but it is one that I think is at the core of what it means to be a Christ-follower in any time period. We’ll be spending time in the book of Matthew and 2 Corinthians as we seek to grow and excel in the grace of giving. Read the rest of this entry »

New Paul Baloche CD Release

Paul Baloche is getting ready to release a new CD – “Glorious” – tomorrow, November 3. I’ve long been a fan of Paul’s music and ministry. I’ve gotten to see him live a few times and experience his teaching. He is a humble man who is passionate for God. His songs have been a huge part of the worship repertoires of the various churches that I have been able to serve at. He is committed to helping worship leaders lead their local churches in authentic worship. His website at www.leadworship.com offers a ton of resources, many of which are free.

You can get the album digitally at AmazonMp3.com here, or you can head over to a couple of worship blogs I read and enter a contest to win a copy of the CD.

However you do it, I hope that you check out this latest offering from Paul.

Video: Because of Your Love

While this isn’t necessarily a new song, it’s one that’s come to my attention lately. It’s a great expression of so many things, yet is a compact and simple song to catch on to.

We’re going to be introducing this song soon, and I hope it catches on.

Check out Paul Baloche and his band doing the song below. Enjoy.

Sunday Setlist: 10/04/09

grow-up-title--finalIt’s been a while since I’ve done one of these. There’s been lots going on. We’re currently in a series called “Grow Up!” and we are focusing on the first section of 2 Peter 1 where Peter talks about the different qualities we are to add to our life as we grow in Christ.

The concept of growing up has a lot of connotations in today’s world. Becoming more independent, self-sufficient, and the like. But the picture that God paints of growing up is one of becoming more like Jesus and becoming more dependent on Him. The end product is way different that what we’ve been trained to think, but way better.

This week was different from our normal Sunday morning picture. Instead of doing two services and Sunday School, we did what we call Time to Serve Sunday. This is something we started doing last year. Every spring and fall (twice a year), we change what we do in order to help our church serve the community together. For the fall piece, we totally restructure our Sunday morning schedule to allow people the opportunity to serve together as an expression of worship, and many of them for the first time. Every gathers at 8:45am, and we do a brief opening service together. Then we break into teams and go out to serve, and then come back to sing, share stories, and baptize people. It’s a long morning, but well worth it. Read the rest of this entry »
