Worshiping Together: 5/23/10

This week was another week of the “Improving Our Serve” series. Our focus this week was what it meant to serve like Jesus. That concept is tossed around a lot, but not always fully understand. Our primary focus was Philippians 2:5-11. We also had some other special elements this week.

Our series mascot, Skip, made a live appearance this week. Instead of a video, Skip was interviewed live about what he had learned so far about serving. It was great to have him as part of the service, and to have him help us bring serving around to the spiritual side of things. Don’t worry, there was some characteristic Skip elements, too.

This was also the Sunday where we take some time to focus on graduates and youth. They were involved more in various aspects of the service. Click through to find out more… Continue Reading…

Worshiping Together: 2/14/10

As we move through February, we continue the “Be People of Prayer” series. This past Sunday, Valentine’s Day, we took a little different approach to the topic of prayer. Focusing on passages in 1 Peter 3:1-7 and Matthew 18:19-20, we took a look at the value of husband’s and wives praying together and how the relationship between the two can impact the effectiveness and vitality of the prayer life in a home.

The service as a whole was a great time together of remembering and celebrating Jesus. We sang, prayed, heard Scripture, and did communion together. Click through for more details… Continue Reading…

grow-up-title--finalThis is the final week of the “Grow Up!” series where we have been focusing on the first section of 2 Peter 1 where Peter talks about the different qualities we are to add to our life as we grow in Christ.

The concept of growing up has a lot of connotations in today’s world. Becoming more independent, self-sufficient, and the like. But the picture that God paints of growing up is one of becoming more like Jesus and becoming more dependent on Him. The end product is way different that what we’ve been trained to think, but way better.

The last two qualities that we focused on this week were brotherly kindness and love toward our neighbor. These are both essential qualities of the Christian life that aren’t necessarily seen as important in today’s world. Yet, as we grow up in Christ, we are to share our heart by giving ourselves away just as Christ did for us. The question that was left with people was “Am I willing to give myself away for the sake of others, whatever that looks like, just as Christ gave Himself for us?” Continue Reading…

Final Words Theme Slide

When someone is in their final days, those who are close to the person often lean and listen hard to their final words. As Jesus hung on the cross, the Scriptures record Him saying seven final phrases that those who were gathered near Him listened to and recorded. What do they mean for us today, and why should we still listen to them?

This was the final week of the “Final Words” series, as well as Easter. As we gathered we looked at the final phrases of Jesus from the cross (John 19:30 and Luke 23:46) as He declared that it was DONE. It was a great day together celebrating, remembering, and proclaiming the sufficiency of Christ’s work on the cross and the transforming power of that work. Continue Reading…
