Glo Digital Bible is sweet!

I’ve long been interested in the various options of computer based bible and bible study software. These softwares started out as digitized resources of the many books and translations that I learned about using growing up and especially in Bible college. Companies like Parsons (Quickverse), NavPress (WordSearch), Logos, and others made cross-referencing and searching incredibly easy. It made it possible to have access to resources that may not be affordable to buy in individual book form. Other options for accessing the Bible on your mobile device include PocketBible from Laridian and YouVersion.com. Any many more.

Then, companies starting coming out with “enhanced” bible software by adding in pics, maps, timelines, video and other interactive stuff. For a visual learner, that was really cool. I always liked the context the pictures and maps brought to the stories in my Bible growing up.

The Languages of Worship: Art (Essentials Red)

When I was first getting into the visual arts as part of worship ministry, I came across a quote that has stuck with me. It’s from a 10 year old book called “Out on the Edge” by Michael Slaughter. He said “the screen is the stained glass window of the 21st century.”

Even as a kid, I remember thinking how odd it was that the church was all about the auditory experience, when we are such visual creatures. That was during the church construction period of make-the-church-as-plain-as-possible-so-it-doesn’t-intimidate-people. Yet, people are drawn to color, significant architecture, pleasing interior design, and the like. Recapturing the expression of art in space and expression can only enhance our connection with God and draw our attention heavenward. Continue Reading…
