The Next Superhero, Episode 3: Courage

Average Joe continues his adventures in trying to be a superhero. This week, attempts at being courageous result in outrageous antics. Shown in connection with the biblical story of courage and faith seen in the life of Ruth.

Production Note: This was by far one of the most challenging and longest shoots I’ve ever done. All the cars were driven by people associated with the church, but it was challenging to work with vehicles. Plus, even though we were working on a side street by the church, we had to be conscious of real traffic.

I’m thankful for how well it turned out, but it was definitely a learning experience in regards to production. I’m thankful to all who gave time and patience to make this happen.

(And, I’m embarrassed to admit, the battery died toward the end, so I didn’t quite get everything filmed I would have liked.)

The Next Superhero, Episode 2: Power

In this episode, Average Joe wonders why he can’t have a power like other super people when he tries to start a fire.

Part of the “Superheroes of the Bible” series at CrossPoint Community Church.

The Next Superhero, Episode 1: Strength

We interrupt our regularly scheduled posting for this bonus creativity post.

At the church I’m volunteering at during our transition period, I’m able to be involved with various creative endeavors.

We recently started a new series called “Superheroes of the Bible.” For seven weeks, we’ll be taking a look at some of the heroes of the Bible, what God did through them, their strengths, their weaknesses, and the common thread of faith.

Each week, there’s going to be a brief video segment featuring a recurring character, Average Joe, who is trying to be a superhero. Joe isn’t super at all, but will be learning some of the same lessons that we can learn about what it means to be a great man or woman of God. All with a dash of comedy.

So, without further ado, here is the first episode of The Next Superhero!

[Song] Great I Am

Recently, thanks to the guys at All About Worship (be sure to check them out), I heard this new song by Jared Anderson called “Great I Am.”

Take a moment and listen to it and watch it.

What do you think?

Incredible Time Lapse Video of the Milky Way

I love time lapse videos, especially of night skies and galaxies. It’s amazing to see captured what most of us don’t notice or else take for granted. God has created an amazing universe full of color, excitement, and His glory.

This particular video was shot in South Dakota during May 2011 by Randy Halverson. 10 seconds of the video is about 2 hours and 20 minutes of real time.

As you look forward to worshiping this weekend with your church, take a moment to watch this and be reminded of the glory and greatness of God.

Enjoy!

(Thanks, Tyler)

[Video] Eyjafjallajökull Volcano

You may remember the volcano that went active in Iceland in May 2010. It disrupted air travel, especially in Europe, for a while. You may have seen some of the pictures or even some video.

This was another video I had seen before, but ran across again. Sean Stiegemeier captured and put together some amazing footage of the event. Probably some of the best put together. Enjoy.

Worshiping Together: Video 3/27/11 [Update]

Video of the first part of the last service I was a part of at Cody CMA. It was great time together. The songs we did included Sing, Not to Us, Song of Hope, Jesus Paid It All, Revelation Song, and Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone). This was a bit more songs than we would normally do in a service.

Check out the video below. Part 2 (songs after the message) will be posted later.

[UPDATE]: Here is the part of the service after the message with songs and closing elements: March 27 2011 Part II

[Creativity] A Stop Motion Love Story

Do you remember the flip books you made in elementary school. Each page would have a figure that moved a little bit from scene to scene, and when you flipped quickly through the pages, it looked like your character was moving.

Stop motion takes that to the next level. It is a series of pictures taken that have a small change from picture to picture. When they are all put together, you can create the illusion of characters and objects that don’t normally have life moving. Think Gumby, the California Raisins, etc. It’s like the computer animation done by Pixar, but with real objects.

I had seen this before, but ran across it again recently. This has to be one the most fluid and organic stop motions I’ve seen. Check it out.

What story do you have to tell, and how are you telling it?
