[Weekend Fun] Address is Approximate

I enjoy sharing cool and creative videos that I run across in my journeys through the interwebs. And I like to do it on the weekend when you’re either unwinding from a busy week or need a moment of pause as you finalize for your weekend ministries.

Maybe I’m the only one, but I think it’s great to see what people are doing creatively with tools that most of use have ready access to.

Today’s video features some stop motion, Google Maps Street View, and a great story.

Enjoy!

What are you watching that you just have to share?

State of the Journey Update (& a few Christmas videos)

The end of 2011 is coming quickly.

As I look back over the past year, I’ve experienced a lot of change and transition. Leaving Wyoming, living for a while in Ohio, and now settling into a new phase of life in Alabama.

Throughout the time, I’ve continued to maintain Journey of Worship, hopefully providing valuable content at times and at other times stuff that’s enjoyable and encouraging.

I appreciate all of you who have faithfully been reading these thoughts and experiences. I hope they have been encouraging, helpful, and insightful. I also am thankful for those who have left a comment at one time or another. Although, I will say it would be great to receive more real comments than spam comments.

I’ve been doing this since the spring of 2009, and each year I’ve continued to refine and evaluate what goes into this blog. Continue Reading…

[Creativity] Puppets and the Bethlehemian Rhapsody

There is no lack of creative worship expressions based around the Christmas story available for us.

No matter your opinion on the longevity and continued expression of puppets, this is pretty cool.

Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody has been reworked to tell the Christmas story events and significance through this creative expression.

The musical performance is well done, and the folks doing the puppets do a good job, too. A touch campy, yet draws you in at the same time.

Take a look at this and be inspired.

How could you tell the wonder and excitement of Christmas in a fresh way with classic elements?

(Thanks, Musicademy)

Winter Snow

Most of my life has been spent in places where it snows during the winter.

There’s something about a covering of white clinging to the trees and blanketing the ground.

It’s clean, it’s peaceful, and it’s calm.

For each of us, the image or experience of snow like this can bring many thoughts and memories to our minds. Continue Reading…

[Creativity] Media, Poetry, & Advent

The Advent and Christmas season is in full swing.

What are you doing to creatively express the timeless story of the birth of the Messiah?

The creative folks at The Village Church in Texas have shared something they’ve done.

Using spoken word poetry, visual imagery, and music, they have sought to help communicate the reality and importance of God with us to their congregation in this Advent season.

Take a moment to watch, be inspired, and to be reminded of the significance of what we, as worship and creative leaders, have the opportunity to lead our people in remembering.

How are you using creative means to communicate truth to the congregation you serve?

Because God came to be with us, we can know the forgiveness of love of God.

(If you would like to use this in your service, information about doing so is available at their website.)

iPads, iPhones, & Christmas Music, Oh My!

What could be more fun than combining iDevices and Christmas tunes?

That’s what Northpoint Community Church in Georgia did last year as a service opener.

Maybe you saw this as it went viral last year.

But, you didn’t.

Either way, it’s worth watching again this weekend.

Enjoy!

Hope you are having a wonderful and joyous music filled holiday season.

Feliz Navidad!

Time Lapse Goodness

Time lapse videos are great.

How the artists capture the amazing motion of the world that God created and put them together is inspiring. To see our world in motion in a way we don’t normally see is full of goodness.

Today’s video is from Dustin Farrell. This guy creates some amazing stuff. Using High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography and motion control, he captures some incredible stuff with his Canon 5D Mark II Digital SLR. Capturing the images is only part of his process as he also works with them in Adobe After Effects to create his amazing sequences.

This video captures the vistas of Arizona and Utah. As you watch it, be inspired at the wonder of the world God created that indeed does display His majesty and greatness.

For the full effect, be sure to watch it in HD and full-screen with the sound on.

[Creativity] The Gospel of John in 3 minutes

This week’s creativity post is a video that I came across thanks to fellow blogger Shane Sooter. Shane produces and creates media and film with his team through City on a Hill Productions. On a regular basis, he’ll post creative church media pieces he discovers over at his blog for Church Media Monday.

Today’s video was done by a group called Spring of Life Youth telling the complete story of the Book of John (from the Bible) in three minutes.

I was a little skeptical that it was even possible, but they do a great job. Click though to check it out. Continue Reading…
